The DD Discount Program is a tremendous value and helps you and your family defray the cost of dental care. It's not insurance and is not available if you already have dental insurance. For $199 per year, you get 2 comprehensive oral examinations, 2 thorough cleanings, annual x-rays, and teeth whitening. You will also get 20% off already reduced dental procedures performed by Dagli Dental staff, including examinations, radiographic images, cleanings, fillings, sealants, extractions, appliances, veneers, crowns, bridges, dentures, and more. Each family member (parent, grand-parent, child, grand-child, sibling) may also join for $149 and receive the same benefits.
Veneers, Inlays and Onlays: What's the difference?
Teeth that have become damaged or discolored, but not so severely as to require a crown, can often be treated with a hard, protective coating that is fabricated in a lab. These coatings can be of varying shapes and sizes, and begin with the dentist taking an impression of the damaged tooth, so that the coating is virtually undetectable in appearance and function from your natural teeth. Examples include inlays, onlays, and veneers. Inlays and onlays are used in pre-molars and molars. Both inlays and onlays can be made of different materials, including ceramic, composite, metal-ceramic, and even gold. Inlays are used when the damage is between the cusps of the tooth and filling would no longer be adequate. Onlays are used when the coating must not only cover the area between the cusps, but also one or more cusps themselves. Laminate veneers are ultra-thin shells made to cover the front surface of teeth. They are generally used for aesthetic reasons and can dramatically improve the color, shape, and length of teeth. Made of stain-resistant materials and long lasting, laminate veneers have been used to treat discolored, chipped or worn-down teeth, or teeth that are misaligned or have gaps. If you would like to learn more about whether inlays, onlays, or veneers are right for you, please discuss with Dr. Dagli at your next visit.
Baby teeth: Temporary but IMPORTANT
Parents sometimes make the mistake of minimizing the importance of baby teeth, since they will eventually fall out. Although temporary, baby teeth play a vital role in your child’s health and the development of their adult teeth. Baby teeth help your child speak and chew, and also maintain space in the jaw for the adult teeth that are growing under the gums. Baby teeth also help guide adult teeth into the correct position. If baby teeth are lost too early, the adult teeth might drift towards the open area, into the wrong spot, and make it difficult for other teeth to find room to grow into. Neglected baby teeth can also cause discomfort for your child. That’s why it’s important to start proper cleaning early. For children under 3, start brushing their teeth as soon as they emerge with a tiny amount of toothpaste. For children older than 3, increase the amount of toothpaste to pea-size. You should brush your child’s teeth until you feel comfortable that he or she can properly brush on their own. Remind them to be gentle with the toothbrush not swallow toothpaste!
Replacing missing teeth
Teeth help us chew, speak, and smile. They also affect our face and facial expressions. Not only do missing teeth make it difficult to do those things, but missing teeth can also affect our face and facial expressions. Fortunately, there are options for missing teeth, including implants, bridges, and dentures. Dental Implants are posts that are surgically placed in the upper or lower jaw, and act as an anchor for replacement teeth. They are very strong and stable, however they do required adequate bone to support the implant. The process takes time, because the post is implanted in the bone and the bone actually grows around it, holding it in place. Implants can support crowns, bridges, or dentures, and can last decades. A fixed bridge is a natural-looking replacement for a missing tooth that is held in place by the adjacent teeth. A fixed bridge does not require surgery or implanting into the bone, and costs less than implants. However, a fixed bridge does require that the adjacent teeth on either side of the missing tooth be healthy enough to anchor the bridge. Removal partial dentures and removal full dentures are replacement teeth attached to a plastic base, which is inserted and removed from your mouth. They are usually less expensive than bridges and implants, but they can be less stable and require more time to get accustomed to. Also, the shape of the inside of your mouth may change over time, and this may create gaps between the plastic base and your mouth, so the dentures will need to be adjusted. Regardless of which method is right for you, replacement teeth are a wonderful option to improve your health and make life more enjoyable!
